Budget 2018 Delivers for Mitchell
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, has welcomed the 2018-19 Federal Budget – a plan to build a stronger economy to benefit all Australians.
“We are providing responsible tax relief – starting in the Budget year for low and middle income earners – to ensure Australians keep more of their hard earned income. We are also lifting tax brackets to ensure that wages don't get eaten up by higher taxes.” Mr Hawke said. “65,616 taxpayers in Mitchell will stand to benefit from the low and middle income tax relief in the upcoming 2018-19 financial year.”
Small and medium businesses will also benefit from tax relief with 17,536 local businesses eligible for tax cuts. These tax cuts are accompanied with the extension of the instant asset write off for businesses with turnovers up to $10 million, which can benefit from writing off assets costing less than $20,000.
The 2018-19 Budget includes infrastructure spending that will benefit the North-West Sydney Region.
“The Turnbull Liberal Government is focused on building the roads, rail and other vital infrastructure that makes life better for all Australians” Mr Hawke said. Over the next eight years, the Government will invest $5.3 billion in equity into Western Sydney through the development of the Western Sydney Airport. The airport alone will generate more than 11,000 direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase and a further 27,000 jobs in the first five years of operation.
“The Turnbull government is also guaranteeing essential services. This budget guarantees the funding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, as well as assisting older Australians to stay in their homes with 14,000 additional places for home care packages.” Mr Hawke said.
“We are supporting 21,000 people over the age of 65 and their families in Mitchell to live longer, happier and healthier” Mr Hawke continued.
There is also increased funding to expand the incredibly popular and important Local Sporting Champions program which is open to junior sporting achievers in Mitchell.
“The additional funding for the Local Sporting Champions program will support a further 3,000 athletes – a 56 per cent increase.” Alex Hawke said. “Over 270 grants have already been given to local youth sporting athletes in Mitchell.”
“The Turnbull Liberal government remains committed to a stronger economy which produces more jobs, a budget that is guaranteeing essential services and a government that lives within its means” Mr Hawke concluded.
