Clean Up Australia Day - Sunday 2 March 2014

Tuesday, 18 February, 2014

Alex Hawke MP, Federal Member for Mitchell and Chair of the House Standing Committee on the Environment, is encouraging the local community to pitch-in and participate in a Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, March 2.

Mr Hawke will be joining with the 1st Balcombe Heights Scout Group to clean up rubbish at Col Sutton Reserve at Baulkham Hills.

“Clean Up Australia Day is a great opportunity for the community to come together and clean up our precious local environment,” Mr Hawke said.

“If you have some time to spare and can pitch-in please come along, it would be great to meet you.”

Mr Hawke said Clean Up Australia Day is firmly entrenched in our local community calendar and that it was providing a strong and positive message about littering and waste.

“Clean Up Australia Day allows us to think about what we are doing and where we dispose our rubbish, both at home and in the community”, concluded Alex Hawke.

In the 20 years since the inception of Clean Up Australia Day, Australians have collected over 200,000 tonnes of rubbish and devoted more than 24 million hours towards the clean-up of our environment.
