Unemployment rate continues to decline in Mitchell

Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, welcomes the latest employment data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which shows a decrease in the unemployment rate in Mitchell.

The suburb of Castle Hill saw a significant drop in the unemployment rate from 5.2% in December 2016 to 3.3% in the December 2017 quarter, while Bella Vista decreased from 4.3% to 2.6% in the same period.

“I am very pleased the unemployment rate in Mitchell is well below both the state and national averages.” Alex Hawke said.

“I pay tribute to our business community and all those who employed an additional person in the last year.”

“In fact, I cannot remember a time where unemployment was near 2% in parts of our community.”  

Baulkham Hills fell from an unemployment rate of 6.3% to 4.3%, a 2% drop over 12 months. Kellyville also fell from 4.5% to 3.1%.

“This low unemployment rate proves the Turnbull Government’s agenda for Jobs and Growth is delivering for people in Mitchell and North West Sydney.” Alex Hawke said.

“Mitchell continues to be an economic powerhouse, with low unemployment and a median income well above the national average.”

Since the Coalition’s election in 2013, 971,500 jobs have been created, an increase of 8.5%.

“The right policy settings have resulted in 1100 new jobs, on average, being created every day. The Turnbull Government will continue to deliver policies which will see even more people get a job in Mitchell,” concluded Alex Hawke.
