Repealing the Carbon Tax: call for public comment

 Wednesday, 16 October 2013

Alex Hawke MP, Federal Member for
Mitchell welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister, the Hon Tony Abbott
MP, calling for public consideration of the exposure drafts of the carbon tax
repeal bills.

“The Prime Minister,
the Hon Tony Abbott, before the election, made a clear commitment that the
Government’s first item of parliamentary business would be to repeal the carbon
tax and yesterday he announced from 1 July 2014, the carbon tax will be
abolished.  This will lower costs for
Mitchell businesses and ease cost of living pressures for households – taking
the pressure off electricity and gas bills for the residents of Mitchell.

“The repeal bills
will also contribute to the Government’s deregulation agenda by removing 440
pages of legislation and reducing business compliance costs by about $100
million annually.

The exposure drafts
of the carbon tax repeal bills are now available at
www.environment.gov.au/carbon-tax-repeal/consultation.html. Final
date for submissions is 5pm, Monday, 4 November 2013.

“Public consultation was
seriously lacking in the previous government. Good governments engage in proper
consultation, which can further refine the draft legislation before its
introduction to the Parliament.  I
encourage Mitchell businesses to take this opportunity to have their say, ”concluded
Alex Hawke.
