Remembrance Day 11.11.13 - pay tribute to our military heroes

Alex Hawke MP, Federal Member for Mitchell, encouraged the community to attend a Remembrance Day service on Monday, 11 November and pay tribute to our brave men and women who have served our country in war, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

“We have a proud history of military service, with our sons and daughters serving across all conflicts.  It is important that on this day we stand together and remember their bravery, dedication and sacrifice,” said Alex Hawke.

In Korea, 18,000 Australians served as part of the multinational United Nations force, of whom 340 lost their lives.

“During the Korean War, just like conflicts before and after it, men and women from all across Australia banded together, they formed a mateship and supported each other through the worst of times.

“I encourage you to honour their spirit of mateship and show your ongoing support of our current and ex-service personnel by purchasing a poppy as part of the Returned & Services League (RSL) of Australia’s Poppy Appeal.

“You will see people selling poppy’s in your local communities, I urge you to dig deep and give to this very worthy cause, “concluded Alex Hawke.
