WESTERN SYDNEY CITY DEAL STAGE 2 – ST MARYS TO ROUSE HILL
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, welcomed the Turnbull Government’s announcement of the Western Sydney City Deal to build a heavy rail line to Western Sydney Airport.
“This announcement will be fantastic news for our community because the Government will ensure a heavy rail line from Rouse Hill to the Western Sydney Airport”, said Alex Hawke.
The first stage of the North South Rail Link extends from Badgerys Creek Aerotropolis to St Marys via Western Sydney Airport. This $7 billion deal builds on the Turnbull Government’s $5.3 billion commitment to build the Airport and develop the region into an economic powerhouse.
“What is vital now is that we get Stage 2 built as soon as possible. I will be leading the campaign with local communities and industry bodies to fight for this much-needed infrastructure”.
Minister Hawke will be convening a roundtable with Minister Fletcher and local Business Chamber directors to lobby State and Federal Governments for Stage 2 funding.
“I have also written an open letter to the NSW Premier and the Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities to strongly consider a funding model to be brought forward. My view is that we need to be open to value-capture financing that works in the best interest of taxpayers, landowners and local communities”, said Alex Hawke.
The immediate objectives I have set out are:
- Set timeframe to provide businesses certainty to plan and invest in the region
- Preservation and protection of suitable corridors for future rail connections
- Finding value-capture financing model based on international best practice
“I look forward to these areas being part of the Government’s agenda, and will work to ensure North West Sydney puts its best foot forward to fight for this much-needed infrastructure”, said Alex Hawke.
