DELIVERING SAFER COMMUNITIES IN MITCHELL

Federal Member for Mitchell has today announced the Morrison Government will provide $69,567 for the installation of 124 CCTV cameras over 17 public locations within the Hills community.

The funding has been committed under Round 3 of the Coalition’s $30 million Safer Communities Fund.

“Partnering with The Hills Shire Council, local police and community sports clubs and facility users is the best way to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and prevent it from happening at all.

“This federally funded installation of 124 CCTV cameras is a big win for us and will mean that less money needs to be spent on repairing vandalism. The Hills Police Area Command will have the evidence they need to find those who do the wrong thing”, said Alex Hawke MP.

Mayor of The Hills Shire Council, Dr Michelle Byrne welcomed the announcement by the Federal Government on Tuesday, April 9.

“We have seen some really positive results with the use of CCTV cameras in The Hills, and we know they act as a serious deterrent to criminals or anyone carrying out illegal activities or antisocial behaviour,” Mayor Byrne said.

“Safety is a top priority for this Council, and this added measure will enhance the community’s peace of mind,” Mayor Byrne added.

More than 300 projects will have been delivered by the Coalition Government across Australia over the three rounds to keep Australians safe.

Alex Hawke MP said that all Australians have a right to feel safe and secure when their communities come together.

The Coalition has now committed $138 million across Australia to deliver on various strategies designed to strengthen our communities.

“I congratulate The Hills Shire Council on their successful application under the Safer Communities Fund. I will continue to work with local councils and community organisations to address crime and anti-social behaviour and keep our community safe”, Alex Hawke said.
