As co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of MND, I welcome the announcement yesterday to amend the Aged Care Rules to recognise Motor Neurone Disease (MND) as a condition deserving priority for Support at Home.
For people and their families living with MND at home, this will provide critical support and ease the burden this hideous disease places on them.
Motor Neurone Disease is a cruel, indiscriminate and degenerative condition that has no cure.
For older Australians there are now two priority pathways, Aged Care or the NDIS, that can provide the assistance they need to live with this challenging condition.
These changes will apply to all older Australians living with MND who have already been assessed and are waiting to receive their Support at Home package, and moving forward, all new applications will be prioritised.
The Government is to be congratulated on this overdue announcement, which will come as welcome relief for Australians living with MND and their families across the country.
