The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, together with Miss Ronie Quinn, Chief Executive Officer, hosted 200 local students at the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum (MYLF) at Vision Valley from the 11th – 14th October 2012.

“The Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum was an amazing success with students from 15 local high schools involved - it was the ‘Best Ever’, said Alex Hawke.

An initiative of Alan Cadman OAM, The Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum is in its 11th year, having started in 2002.  It is a 2½ day live-in program for Year 11 students, based on the values of integrity, service and courage.  The program consists of inspirational speakers, team building activities, a community service project and time for small group discussions.

This year’s community service was at our local Anglican Retirement Village at Castle Hill where students met with elderly residents and worked to complete outstanding jobs for them.

“We would like to thank our valued sponsors; our major sponsor, Nature's Sunshine Australia, and sponsors; Parker Hannafin, PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia, and Allan Drew Funerals, for their continuing commitment to the future of our student leaders.

“I would also like to thank Shelton’s Meats and Smiling Bakery, both located in Castle Mall, for their community support in donating ‘in kind’ to the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum.

“The continuing sponsorship from these businesses is integral to the success of the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum,” concluded Alex Hawke

The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, welcomed the election of Clr Dr Michelle Byrne and Clr Andrew Jefferies, Mayor and Deputy Mayor for The Hills Shire Council.

“Congratulations to Clr Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor and Clr Andrew Jefferies, Deputy Mayor on being elected by their colleagues. They will continue the tradition of strong Liberal representation on behalf of the residents of the Hills Shire set in the last term. Both Michelle and Andrew are experienced and capable councillors and have a strong commitment to getting outcomes for the Hills district, said Alex Hawke.

“I look forward to working with the Mayor and her team.

“I was also pleased to see that the residents of the Hills District voted for a popularly elected mayor. The residents of the Hills Shire Council will get to vote for their own mayor at the 2016 council elections.

“I have always been a strong supporter of a popularly elected mayor, and this reform is a substantial improvement that has been delivered, Alex Hawke said.

“I thank the community for endorsing this important reform and look forward to seeing our Council remain as one of the best in the State on all benchmarks”, concluded Alex Hawke.
