FinTech Australia's Intersekt 2025 Conference

I’m pleased to address the Intersekt Conference as the Shadow Minister for Industry and Innovation.

Fintech is one of Australia’s great innovation success stories.

Indeed, some economists have argued that the wealth of modern nations of the past 200 years was not primarily about resources or state investment, but about unleashing ideas, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial energy.

This insight can be seen in the innovation success story that is fintech in Australia.

Australia has a long history in what we now call fintech.

FinTech Australia's Intersekt 2025 conference
I'm optimistic about the future of AI in Australia - but the federal government has to get the regulatory balance right.

Labor's instinct is to delay first and then over-regulate second and third.

A regulatory wild west helps no one, but Labor allowing the union movement to write our AI laws is also unaccptable.

Thank you to @FinTech Australia for hosting me at their Intersekt Conference in Melbourne, an important opportunity hear directly from this growing industry.

Unilever factory tour @ North Rocks
Great to visit the Unilever factory in North Rocks today, a wonderful Western Sydney manufacturer.

Their commitment to local manufacturing is commendable — with over 70% of Unilever products sold in Australia made domestically.

Fascinating to hear about their strides towards sustainability and plastic reduction, as well as how they use R&D to innovate their product lines.
