Mr HAWKE (Mitchell) (10:18): I rise today to add my voice to the hundreds of thousands of Australians—progressive, conservative, left and right—who have all indicated their strenuous opposition to this Albanese Labor government's attempt to curtail our freedom of speech and expression.
Mr HAWKE (Mitchell) (19:30): The government have recently made a lot about their changes helping and assisting young people. One change that I fear is negative is the government's secret modelling of removal of tax concessions in relation to negative gearing, which would impact, in particular, young people's opportunity to get ahead.
It was a privilege to host 150 student leaders from across the 16 public and private high schools in my electorate at the 23rd Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum. The forum was held from 17 to 19 October at the YMCA Yarramundi and was an incredible success. The forum was a 2½-day live program for new year 11 students based on the values of integrity, service and courage. The energy and enthusiasm of the students this year was truly remarkable.
An incredible privilege and honour to attend the Parliamentary Reception for His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla during their visit to Australia.
Fun Fact: on the same day, 21 October, thirteen years earlier, Queen Elizabeth II visited Parliament House. I will always treasure the moment I met Queen Elizabeth II and pay tribute to our longest serving Monarch.
