Applications for Long Tan Bursary scheme now open

CHILDREN and now grandchildren of Vietnam veterans in Mitchell are encouraged to apply for funding under the Long Tan Bursary scheme for the 2020 educational year.

Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, said the Long Tan Bursary scheme honoured the service and sacrifice of Australia’s Vietnam War veterans by providing financial support for their children and grandchildren to undertake post-secondary education.

“The Long Tan Bursary scheme is named after the Battle of Long Tan, the best-known battle fought by Australians during the Vietnam War,” Alex Hawke said.

“We are committed to putting veterans and their families first, and this bursary scheme is designed to assist students with continuing their education and obtain formal qualifications to pursue their chosen career.”

Alex Hawke MP said the education and training of the next generation of students is just one of the ways the Government is honouring the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country in Vietnam.

“This is an important bursary, and with the applications now being extended to grandchildren of Vietnam veterans, it will continue to assist students to reach their study goals for many years to come,” concluded Alex Hawke MP.

Applications for each academic year open on Vietnam Veterans Day, 18 August, and close on 31 October 2019.

The Long Tan Bursary scheme is administered by the Australian Veterans’ Children Assistance Trust on behalf of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
