Australian exports in the Red Sea left vulnerable to Houthi attack
As terrorist attacks in the Red Sea worsen, US calls for assistance in defence of critical trading routes were met with deaf ears by the PM as revealed by Senate Estimates last week. As 12 per cent of the global shipping trade is put under risk, the deliberate inaction by the Albanese-Labor government seeks to directly jeopardise Australia’s exports.
Australia’s own self-interest is our attachment to global commerce, and particularly secure safe shipping routes. The Coalition supports the role of our allies and partners in securing peace in the region against merciless attacks by Houthi rebels.
Not only has our live export shipping been affected, not only have our productivity and exports been severely constrained, but we will see costs per container continue to risk.
It is why I called for immediate action by the Government in Parliament.
