Clean Up Australia Day @ Third Settlement Reserve
For over 20 years it has been a pleasure to organise sites for Clean Up Australia Day. This practical, community-based initiative for our local environment was again strongly supported by our Winston Hills community helping to keep Third Settlement Reserve clean.
Thank you to all our enthusiastic and helpful volunteers, for all your hard work.
A big thank you to our fantastic community especially the Winston Hills Scouts and Girl Guides who put in a mammoth effort to ensure all supplies and safety measures were put in place.
I would like to thank Des Saunders and Dennis Ball for their organisation of the day. Des has been a Scout leader since 2011. He is an exceptional mentor well loved by his students as he teaches them though his kind and enthusiastic manner. It was encouraging to see so many Scouts and leaders working together to make a positive change for our community. The Hills has some of the highest volunteer participation in NSW and it was demonstrated on Sunday. As a father of four, I know how busy the weekends are, so it was fantastic to have so many families participating in Clean Up Australia Day and helping to make a difference to our local environment.
The State Member for Seven Hills, Mark Taylor MP has been a strong advocate for the local environment and through his advocacy the NSW Government has committed over $126,000 to preventing the erosion of Toongabbie creek which runs through Third Settlement Reserve. This will improve water quality and flow, especially during and after heavy rain. This commitment by the NSW Government will protect the creek and improve our local park of Third Settlement Reserve.
