Rouse Hill embraces Government Shopfront
A small shopfront in Rouse Hill is having a big impact on the way people access Centrelink and Medicare.
The first of its kind in Australia, the Rouse Hill self-service shopfront has been embraced by the local community with 150 – 200 people each day using the onsite facilities.
Minister for Human Services Senator the Hon Marise Payne said the shopfront provides a more flexible way of connecting the local community with government services.
“People can now access a wide range of government services in the one place – with the support of staff if they need it,’’ Minister Payne said.
“They no longer need to travel to Castle Hill or Blacktown to access many of the department’s services, saving time.
“With Rouse Hill being one of the top 10 growth corridors in the country, it is important that flexible access to government services expands with the region.”
Federal Member for Mitchell Alex Hawke said the shopfront has proven a real asset to the people of Rouse Hill.
“We’re seeing a lot of young families coming to the shopfront, registering for self-service and getting the expert assistance they need to help them use the self-service facilities onsite,” Mr Hawke said.
“They are also coming in and getting acquainted with the Centrelink and Medicare Apps and with the new myGov service.
“In fact, people of all ages can choose to manage their Centrelink business from their smartphones using apps tailored for students, jobseekers, families and seniors.
“I encourage people living in the region to come along to the Rouse Hill shopfront and find out which self-service option would best fit with their lifestyle.”
The Rouse Hill shopfront is located at shop number 76 of the Rouse Hill Town Centre and is open from 9 am – 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.
