Stage 1 funding announced for Rail link to Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP said today, the Morrison and Berejiklian Governments will ensure the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport has a metro line in time for its opening.
The Prime Minister and this Government $3.5 billion rail package commitment would help bring the vision to life, alongside a matching contribution from the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government.
North-South Rail will connect St Marys, the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the Aerotropolis at North Bringelly.
“Our plan for a stronger economy means we can make record infrastructure investments in Western Sydney, said Alex Hawke.
“This project and the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport will drive economic growth for Western Sydney, boost jobs and housing and make it into a key hub of our city all as part of our Western Sydney City Deal.”
“What is vital now is that we get stage 2 built as soon as possible. The St Marys to Rouse Hill rail line will open up the Airport to key residential and commercial markets within North West Sydney and my electorate of Mitchell. I will be working together with local communities and industry bodies to fight for this much needed infrastructure”, Alex Hawke said.
The key objectives include the preservation and protection of suitable corridors for future rail connections, as well as value-capture financing to maximise funding in the best interest of taxpayers, landowners and local communities. I will also be advocating for a set timeframe, allowing businesses certainty to plan and invest in the region.
“Together we can work towards delivering the North South Rail Link potentially earlier than the current projected timeframe, help realise the aspiration of a 30-minute city for Western Sydney, and bring residents closer to jobs, education and services”, concluded Alex Hawke MP.
