Alex Hawke seeking urgent safety upgrade of Memorial Avenue, Kellyville

Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, today has asked the Hills Shire Council and the NSW Government to urgently upgrade the intersection of Hector Court and Memorial Avenue, Kellyville.

“In light of today’s tragedy at this intersection involving a 17 year old driver and a school bus these old rural roads need to be quickly brought into an urban road that is adequate for this rapidly expanding part of North West Sydney.

“I understand Roads and Maritime Services has plans in place for the upgrade of Memorial Avenue in two years. However, this is not good enough as there is a desperate need for the upgrade to commence as soon as possible to ensure the safety of the residents in Mitchell and the wider community.

“As a representative of this community and a local resident there is an urgent review needed to have calming devices and traffic lights installed at this intersection and along Memorial Avenue and Burns Road.  Memorial Avenue is now a major thoroughfare and is under the auspices of the Roads and Maritime Services and I have written directly to them seeking an immediate safety upgrade for the full length of Memorial Avenue including Burns Road.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver and her family during this time. I urge the residents of Mitchell to take extra care when driving along these roads”, concluded Alex Hawke MP.
