The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for use in Australia following a full and thorough assessment process.

Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, said this welcomed news means Australia will now have two safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines available.

“The approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine for the people of Mitchell and for the whole of Australia comes after rigorous assessment from our independent medical regulator,” Alex Hawke said.

 A new year means the opening of the 2021-22 Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program, with applications now welcome from organisations in Mitchell.

Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, said the program was now entering its 25th year and had already supported thousands of projects nationally, including in Mitchell.

Community Organisations in Mitchell are being invited to form a partnership to tackle drugs and alcohol, with funding from the Morrison Government.

Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, said applications were now open for registration of new Local Drug Action Teams (LDATs) to prevent and minimise harm from ice, alcohol and other drugs.

“Alcohol and other drugs, including ice or crystal methamphetamine, are issues for communities, not just for individuals,” Alex Hawke MP said.

This Australia Day marks a momentous occasion for more than 12,000 people who are expected to become Australian citizens at one of more than 430 citizenship ceremonies being held across Australia.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke joined the Australian community in welcoming and congratulating these new Australians.

“Australian citizenship is a common bond that unifies all Australians,” Mr Hawke said.
