Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, said the Government will not proceed with Labor’s Bank Deposit Tax.
“Labor’s Bank Deposit Tax would have imposed costs of $1.5 billion on Australians with savings,” Alex Hawke said.
“This Government is in the business of protecting the savings of people from Mitchell – not raiding them. Our action today reflects the Government’s determination to deliver lower, simpler and fairer taxes.
“This decision comes after extensive consultations with stakeholders and the community.
The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, is encouraging local community organisations in Mitchell to submit an expression of interest for funding under the Stronger Communities Programme.
The Stronger Communities Programme, announced in this year’s Budget, will deliver $150,000 per year for two years to fund capital projects which deliver social benefits.
Expressions of Interest are being sought for the grants. Examples of projects which may be funded under the programme include:
Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, encourages women from Mitchell who are interested in sport to apply for $400,000 worth of grants to support and develop women leaders in Australian sport.
“I encourage all women who are interested in and have a commitment to their sport and local community to apply for the grants of up to $5000 for individuals and $10,000 for organisations as part of the Women Leaders in Sport programme,” Alex Hawke said.
The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, is calling on community leaders to submit an expression of interest to join the Mitchell Consultation Committee under the Stronger Communities Programme.

The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, is encouraging young local athletes to apply for the Local Sporting Champions program.
The Local Sporting Champions program is designed to support young people participating in state, national and international level sporting championships as an athlete, coach or official.
“These grants help aspiring young athletes to realise their goals. It is a way of supporting the next generation of Australian sporting champions, said Alex Hawke.
