Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, yesterday’s vote by the Senate to repeal the Carbon Tax is great news for local families and small businesses.
“Scrapping the Carbon Tax will save the average household around $550 a year, including around $200 on the average household electricity bill and around $70 on the average gas bill. This will reduce cost of living pressures for all Australians”, Alex Hawke said.
“The Government’s consumer watchdog, the ACCC, has been given extra funding and powers to ensure that savings are passed on to consumers.”
The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, is encouraging young local athletes to apply for the Local Sporting Champions program.
The Local Sporting Champions program is designed to support young people participating in state, national and international level sporting championships as an athlete, coach or official.
“These grants help aspiring young athletes to realise their goals. It is a way of supporting the next generation of Australian sporting champions, said Alex Hawke.

North West Sydney is one of 18 areas selected under Coalition Government’s new Work for the Dole arrangements for young job seekers.
Federal member for Alex Hawke MP, Federal Member for Mitchell today announced 18 to 30 year olds in North West Sydney who have been unemployed for twelve months or more and receiving Newstart and/or Youth Allowance (other) will be required to do Work for the Dole in 2014/15.
Alex Hawke said from 1 July 2014 participants will complete around 15 hours per week for six months in a work-like environment.
From today, long day care services in Mitchell can apply to share in the largest-ever investment in the professional development of their educators.
Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, welcomed the opening of applications for the Abbott Government’s $200 million Long Day Care Professional Development Programme (LDCPDP).
Alex Hawke said all long day care services were eligible to apply, with additional support for early childhood teachers, as well as services located in regional, rural and remote communities, to help tackle skills shortages in both areas.
